A fake Windows blue screen of death (BSOD): the sad face, the message that the PC ran into a problem, a progress counter, a QR code and a stop code. Open it in fullscreen for a harmless crash prank.
How to set up the prank
- Open this page on the computer you want to prank.
- Press F or the fullscreen button and move the mouse away so the controls and cursor fade out.
- The counter climbs to 100% complete, then waits. Nothing restarts.
- Press Esc to leave fullscreen and close the tab when you are done.
About the real blue screen
Windows shows a blue screen when it hits an error it cannot recover from, then restarts. The stop code on this page, CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED, is a real one, but the QR code is decoration and leads nowhere. If you are seeing a real blue screen, note the stop code and search for it on Microsoft's support site.
Questions
Is the fake blue screen safe?
Yes. It is only a web page. It does not crash, restart or change anything on the computer.
How do I close it?
Press Esc to leave fullscreen, then close the tab.
Is this the same as the blue screen page?
No. The blue screen page is a plain blue light. This page imitates the Windows error screen.
