Monitor as Light

Online Ring Light

How to use

An online ring light: a bright ring on a dark screen that lights your face evenly and puts a round catchlight in your eyes. Change the size, thickness, warmth and brightness, then go fullscreen.

How to set up the ring light

  1. Put the screen right behind or around your camera. On a laptop, the webcam already sits above the middle of the ring.
  2. Press F for fullscreen and turn your display brightness up.
  3. Make the ring large enough to fill most of the screen. A thicker ring gives more light.
  4. Set the warmth to match your room: around 5600K for daylight, lower next to warm lamps.

Ring light or white screen?

A full white screen gives more light overall. A ring gives the round reflection in the eyes that people know from beauty and streaming setups, and its dark center keeps the light from washing out the middle of the frame. For the most light, use the white screen. For the look, use the ring.

Tips

Use the biggest screen you have, about an arm's length from your face. A tablet or a second monitor next to the camera makes a good second ring. Turn off overhead lights, which cast shadows under your eyes.

For a colored ring, pick a color in the Color tab first, then switch back to Ring. The ring keeps that color.

Questions

Does the online ring light need my camera?

No. It only draws a ring on your screen. Your camera app or call software stays in charge of the camera.

What size ring works best?

Start with a large ring, around 60–70%, and a thickness of about 30%. Make it thinner for a sharper catchlight, or thicker for more light.

Can I use a ring light on my phone?

Yes. Open this page on a second phone or tablet and hold it behind the phone you are filming with, or use your laptop screen as the ring.

How do I go fullscreen?

Press F on a keyboard, or use the fullscreen button in the bar at the bottom. Press Esc or F again to leave. On iPhone, Safari does not allow real fullscreen, so add the page to your home screen for the cleanest view.

Is it free?

Yes. There is no account, no download and no time limit. It runs in your browser and never asks for camera, microphone or location access.
